What Is A Digipack?

A Digipack is simply how an artist or artists distribute their music in physical format to the public for general consumption whether it be via vinyl or CD.

It is important for an artist to design their Digipack so that they can successfully market themselves to their fans in a way that makes them recognisable. Not only this but also a worthy purchase. For example some artists include bonus tracks, a second disk that includes bonus features or extra inlays to satisfy their audience and reward them for their support as well as exciting them in the process with things such as behind the scenes footage. Digipacks can be really useful in solidifying an artists image.

A Digipack usually consists of a front and back cover, a minimum of one CD and several inlays that can include images of the artist, stories, inspiration behind certain songs, lyrics and personal messages. The front cover usually states the album name and it's respective artist while the back usually contains the song list as well as contact details such as websites and record labels. Barcodes can also be found on the back. The disc will often contain some form of imagery relating to the artist and the album. Here is an examples:

It is important to understand what Digipaks are and what they're used for as well as how they are made up as I will have to create one myself as part of my coursework.
